STUDIO ECLECT believes in the power of creative atmospheres to alter the quality of our lives. That the design of spaces, furniture and objects can be filled with meaning. The story of STUDIO ECLECT started with a camera. Founder Kate Durham turned her gaze to the world around her, capturing the hidden and the unique and the in between. Kate’s childhood was a string of creative projects. Growing up on a farm on the Mornington Peninsula, she created little worlds in the natural environment, and endlessly re-painted and “renovated” her bedroom. She moved to Melbourne to complete a Bachelor of Design (Interior Architecture) (Honours) at Swinburne University. Kate’s mission: to swap twigs for building materials and create real, inspiring, immersive worlds.

Kate’s feet naturally found their path. Her design practice was an evolution of her creative life. It didn’t need to be over-intellectualised: for Kate, cinematic storytelling was innate. STUDIO ECLECT specialises in projects that transport people, evoke emotions, portray identities, invite connection and tell stories just like a film. Step into the STUDIO ECLECT world.

It wasn’t until then that a light switched on and she came to realise a path that felt completely natural. A practical evolution from what she had already been doing her whole life without intellectualising it. With cinema being a major source of inspiration, STUDIO ECLECT specialises in designing projects that transport people, evoke emotions, portray identities, invite connection and tell stories - much like a compelling film does.
