Ophelia

Ophelia is a versatile, day-to-night neighbourhood café in Northcote, designed around the concept of "hosting at home." Earthy materials like walnut timber and original maroon terrazzo are layered with cozy, residential-inspired details, including an illuminated record wall, olive chenille booths, and open kitchen-style shelving to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Role

Interior Designer

Ophelia is a neighbourhood café located in Northcote, Melbourne. Designed to be a sophisticated yet approachable, “in-betweener”: an adaptable venue that spans from coffee and breakfast in the morning to a vino and snack in the evening. The design of the space was guided by the narrative of “hosting at home”. The warm, eclectic atmosphere is grounded with an earthy material base of walnut timber, original maroon terrazzo floors and oat-toned ceramic tiles. Layered over are details referencing an open-plan kitchen and dining setting. Think deep olive chenille booth seating, a statement record wall with warm backlighting and integrated vinyl players, and a curved open bar framed by kitchen-style shelving filled with wine and collected vintage objects. The project was led by STUDIO ECLECT from concept through to design development, documentation, execution, and full brand identity.
